Information Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has termed the day of inauguration of Padma Bridge as the happiest day after 50 years of liberation war.
Responding to a question from reporters while attending the inauguration ceremony of the Padma Bridge at Mawa end of Munshiganj on Saturday morning, he said, “Today is a very happy day for all Bengalis. I have seen the liberation war. It is as if the Bengalis are rejoicing in the long 50-year journey that people had after the liberation war.”
Expressing his personal feelings, Dr Hassan Mahmud said, “When I was ten or eleven years old, and was standing in the corner of the field or watching the Eid moon from the roof of my house, the joy I felt was just like today. All the people of the country are happy today. If there was an opportunity, all the people of the country would have attended the inauguration ceremony of this Padma bridge here.”
Referring to the 'Bengali nation that does not accept defeat', the Broadcasting Minister said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has shown that we do not accept defeat by breaking all conspiracies. Just as Bangabandhu brought freedom, Bangabandhu's daughter has also shown that under her leadership Bengalis do not bow their heads, overcoming all obstacles, Bengalis can keep their heads high, can overcome all adversities and reach the goal.”
