Today (December 4) is Jibannagar Freedom Day. On this day in 1971, Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga adjacent to Indian border was liberated.

On this day, in the face of fierce resistance from the freedom fighters and the Indian allied forces, the Pakistani occupying forces left Jibannagar and fled towards Jhenaidah after a bloody battle.

Freedom Fighter Nizamuddin, former commander of Jibannagar Muktijoddha Sangsad, said that despite the fall of occupying forces in Jibannagar Upazila on 26 November 1971, the final victory came on December 4.

On this morning during Liberation War, freedom fighters jointly led by Major Dutt, Commander of the Indian Allied Forces and Captain Mostafizur Rahman, Sub-Sector Commander of Sector 7, entered Bangladesh through Dhopakhali border in Jibannagar Upazila and attacked the Pak army at Jibannagar, Duttnagar, Santoshpur and Hasadah villages.

In this fierce battle soldiers of the 29th Beluch Regiment of the Pak occupying forces were defeated by the combined forces and fled toward neighboring district of Jhenaidah.

At that time, the freedom fighters set fire to the jeep used by Pak Army Captain Munshur Ali, identified as inhuman torturer, that was left at the police station.

On this day, the spontaneous freedom fighters hoisted the flag of independent Bangladesh for the first time in Jibannagar. Administrative activities of independent Bangladesh began in Jibannagar, making Freedom fighter Habibur Rasul the Administrative Officer and Mojibur Rahman In-Charge of the police station.

The local Muktijoddha Sangsad, cultural organizations and political leaders are observing Jibannagar Freedom Day-2020 in a limited manner amid this corona situation.
