Construction work of widening project of Kishoreganj-Pakundia-Mirzapur-Tok district highway at a cost of Tk 730 crore has been inaugurated to bring about socio-economic changes in the Haor area of Kishoreganj.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved a Taka 845.53 crore project to widen the Baroiarhat-Heyako-Ramgarh Road in a bid to boost import and export as well as trade and commerce between neighboring India and Bangladesh.
Nur Mohammad, from Kishorganj 2 constituency, inaugurated the construction work at a function as the chief guest on Wednesday (January 6). Roads and Highways Department of Kishoreganj arranged the function in the Thanaghat bypass area at Egarosindur at Pakundia upazila.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Pakundia Md Nahid Hasan presided over the function, while Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways Department, Kishoreganj Rashedul Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pakundia Police Station Md Sarwar Jahan, Burudia UP Chairman Nazmul Huda Rubel, Upazila Labour leader Dewan, Awami League leader Asad Dealer, Juba League leader Enamul Hasan Rajib and contractor Enamul Haque spoke at the event, among others. Awami League leader Jahangir Alam conducted the function.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project in 2019. Roads and Highways Department, Kishoreganj is implementing the development project.

In his speech, Nur Mohammad said that a massive socioeconomic changes will take place in the Haor area when the Kishoreganj-Pakundia-Mirzapur-Tok highway widening project is completed. The project would strengthen direct road connectivity between the Haor area and other parts of the country.
Some people of Pakundia upazila and other parts of Kishoreganj district said that Kishoreganj-Pakundia-Mirzapur-Tok is already now important for people of Kishoreganj and travelers from other parts of the country as a huge number of tourists flock regularly to the Haor.
People of the area are happy for beginning of the project.
It may be mentionable that the Haor area of Kishoreganj is a unique place of natural beauty as well as biodiversity. And the highway increased the beauty of the Haor. The socio-economic condition of the area is changing as a result of construction of road and highway.
