The amount of default loans until February 2019, in the state-run banks of Chandpur district stands at Tk 66,28,00,000.
This information was revealed at a meeting of district agriculture committee on February 24. All banks of the district including state-owned Sonali, Rupali, Krishi, BASIC and other banks termed these loan as classified.
According to sources, the total amount of classified money in 20 branches of Sonali Bank is Tk 1572.29 lakh, while in 20 branches of Agrani Bank the amount is Tk 2060.10 lakh, in 15 branches of Janata bank is Tk 577.97 lakh, in 24 branches of Bangladesh Krishi
Bank is Tk 2012.37 lakh, Tk 1066 crore in the BASIC bank and
Tk 2.43 crore is in Bangladesh Development Bank.
Asked about the default money, a Senior Principal Officer of Agrani Bank said, "When a customer does not pay the money taken from the bank in the due time, the bank officials try to communicate them. However, if the customer does not take any kind of positive initiative to pay back the money, the bank is forced to file a case. We will take legal action against them.”
