After quota protest led by the students and ease of curfew, the vehicular movement has returned to normalcy on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway.
However, a loss of Tk 6 crore was incurred as toll collection of the bridge in the last week due to the protest and curfew.
Executive Engineer of Bangabandhu Bridge Site Office Ahsanul Kabir Pavel confirmed the matter on Friday.
He said the toll collection was the lowest from July 18 to July 24. A loss of Tk 6 crore of toll collection was incurred in a week. The vehicular movement became normal on July 25 as the curfew eased. At present, the vehicles were crossing the bridge easily.
Earlier on July 18, the students obstructed the highway and staged demonstration at the Bangabandhu Bridge East roundabout demanding the reform of quota. Vehicles of some 22 districts, including Dhaka, Mymensingh and northern region, ply on the bridge.
The vehicular movement on the bridge decreased from that day. So, the bridge authorities experienced a loss in toll collection in both East and West end of the bridge.
