Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a revised Mega Project amounting Taka 599 crore 30 lakh under 'Further Development Project of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology' for development of quality of Education and Research and for the construction of necessary infrastructures and procurement of equipment for RUET.
The project was approved in the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC Conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday (22 December). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting. Earlier, in the ECNEC meeting held on February-14,2017, Taka 340 crore 13 lakh was approved under 'Further Development Project of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology' and on December-22,2020, the project was presented again in the ECNEC meeting as a revised project. The ECNEC meeting approved an additional Taka 259 crore 17 lakh in addition with the earlier Taka 340 crore 13 lakh to implement properly the Mega Project totalling the allocation
Under the 'Further Development Project of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology', construction of three Academic Buildings, one Administrative Building, One Institute Building, Two student dormitories for males, two student dormitories for females, the extension of Bangabandhu Hall up to the sixth floor, construction of a Teacher dormitory, construction of a staff quarter, construction of a Medical Centre and construction of resident for the Vice-Chancellor have been included.
Among 14 buildings under the project, 11 building will be ten-storied. Moreover, sophisticated equipment will be supplied in the Laboratories of the varsity to ease Practical classes of students and to conduct research activities.
Vice-Chancellor of RUET Professor Dr. Rafiqul Islam Sheikh thanked and expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other concerned for allocating so huge a fund for the development of RUET. He hoped, after implementation of the project, RUET would turn to an international standard university.
