Cheques worth of Taka 1.25 crore were distributed among 114 patients with chronic diseases and 71 different social and religious organizations in the city.
On the occasion, a function was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner on Monday afternoon.
Lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Sheikh Salahuddin Zwel distributed the cheques as the chief guest with DC Khondokar Yasir Arefin in the chair.
The 114 patients who have been suffering from different chronic diseases like cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, paralysis in stroke, congenital cardiac disease and thalassemia received the cheques.
Jointly organised by Khulna District Administration and the Department of Social Welfare, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) Mukul Kumar Maitra presided over the function.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) Nazmul Hussain Khan, general secretary of city unit Awami League MDA Babul Rana, district relief and rehabilitation officer Md Abdul Karim, Assistant Director of the District Social Welfare Md Aynal Haque addressed the event while Personal Secretary of the lawmaker Dr Sayedur Rahman conducted it.
Later, the chief guest distributed cheques for Taka 71,33 lakh among 71 mosques, madrasa temples, schools, charitable and orphanage centers. Under the 'Maintenance of Rural Infrastructural Project, the cheques were distributed to the religious and helpless organisations allotted by the parliament member's special test relief (TR) for the 2023-24 financial years.
