The spectacular rise of Bangladesh cricket in white-ball cricket over the last few years has been nothing short of extraordinary. Many say the current Bangladesh team are the best till date. Their recent drubbing of West Indies in the ODI series by 3-0 says a lot about the class and calibre of this team in this format of the game.
Tigers returned to international cricket after a one-year stagnation due to corona pandemic, however ODI team’s sheer brilliance showed no signs of rustiness in them. Sky is the limit for this current crop of players.
However, that being said, Tigers are complete contrast of themselves in the Test format. Since their debut in the Test arena in 2000, Bangladesh played 119 Test matches, where they lost 89 of them, which is shambolic to say the least. They won only 14 and drew 16. Of those 89 defeats, most of them came in the form of innings defeat. These facts are more than enough to portray Bangladesh’s miserable form when it comes to Test.
These facts and figures cannot stay the same and Tigers now need to show their ascendency in the Test arena. In the upcoming two-match Test series against Windies, Bangladesh need to perform at their very best. Especially in batting department, most of the batsmen fail to bat with patience, which is a must need in this format of the game. Bowlers need to use their stamina wisely and keep the bowling in good length most of the time. All in all, consistency is needed in every department of the game to enhance as a team in Test cricket.
For these current group of Test players, time has now come to rise from the ashes and show the world that Bangladesh are ready to fight the Test elites toe to toe.
