Originally set to play the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on home soil, the Bangladesh women's cricket team has relocated to the United Arab Emirates due to security concerns. Led by Nigar Sultana Joty, the team departed for the UAE on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. to participate in the ICC event.

The primary goal for Joty and her team is to end their World Cup win drought. The tournament kicks off on October 3, with Bangladesh aiming to secure their first victory in their opening match against Scotland.

Captain Joty has ambitious goals, not only to win matches but also to reach the semifinals. "First and foremost, we aim to win matches. Except for 2014, we haven’t won a single match in any World Cup. We’ve played good cricket, but that doesn’t matter if we can’t win. So, our first goal is to win. Secondly, once we gain momentum, I believe our team is capable... of course, who doesn’t want to play in the semifinals?" Joty stated during a press conference following a photoshoot at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.

Bangladesh enters the World Cup with strong preparation, having recently completed a successful tour of Sri Lanka with the ‘A’ team. They won both the ODI and T20 series, defeating their opponents 4-1 in the shorter format, showcasing impressive performances from both batters and bowlers.

The challenge now is to carry that momentum into the World Cup. Bangladesh is placed in Group B, alongside England, Scotland, South Africa, and the West Indies in the 10-team tournament.
