Tigresses following their winning start against Scotland, will face a tough challenge in their second match when they will take England today in the ICC Wpomen’s T20 World Cup in UAE.
Making a winning start is a big inspiration, as Bangladesh Women Cricket team made it in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup in their opening match defeating Scotland on Thursday.
The Tigresses broke their 10 years winning draught in the Women’s T20 World Cup when they won in 2014 at home ground in Sylhet defeating Ireland in a playoff (nine place) match.
However, any victory, against any team is a mental boost up no doubt and if it’s in the first match of a tournament, is something more significant, so Tigresses’ win against Scotland is also a motivation.
But the Tigresses will face real challenge in the World Cup from today when they will take on England. But there is a huge different between Scotland and England in all respects.
Though, the Tigresses won the match against Scotland, their performances were not at all up to the mark, when their approaches almost in all departments were very much unimpressive.
Apart from some disciplined bowling, Tigresses batting and fielding were very much unimpressive. Missing the catches and poor fielding were very much remarkable, as Scotland could cross the 100 (103) runs.
The batting line up was also not exciting, as the striking rate of the established batters were below 100, which doesn’t go with the character of the T20 format.
Bangladesh could reach to 119 runs thanks some feeble fielding of Scotland, as they missed catches and allowed batters to take runs.
So, the match against England would be more than tough for the Tigresses, when they have to improve much their batting, fielding, and bowling would have to be better.
Previous record of Bangladesh women against England were not insignificants when both the teams faced off three times in the Women’s T20 World Cup and the former suffered defeat in all the occasions.
In 2014, in their first meeting at home ground in Sylhet, England won the match by 79 runs. England batted first and scored 137 runs and restricted the hosts for only 58 runs for nine wickets when number 10 batter Fahima Khatun was the highest scorer with 16 runs followed by the opener Ayasha Rahman and number sixth batter Lata Mondal were their other contributors scoring 10 runs each.
In 2016 in Bengaluru, India, Bangladesh went down by 36 runs when chasing to 154 rusn target they could manage 117 runs for six wickets. This time, Nigar Sultana Joti (captain of this team in UAE) was a bit determined when she scored 35 off 28 balls and Salama Khatun was not with 32 off 30 balls.
In 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, in Gros Islet, West Indies, Bangladesh suffered another humiliating seven wickets defeat, when they after batting first they could manage only 76 runs and England won the match by seven wickets (in D/L Method) scoring 64 runs for three wickets.
This time also it would be a big challenge for the Tigresses when they will face England, one of the powerhouses of the world cricket.
