Bangladesh cricket team’s head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed have returned to Dhaka following a lengthy break after the T20 World Cup. Visa issues delayed his initial return date of 25th July.
The coach is wasting no time in getting back to work, with a training camp scheduled to begin today (Saturday) as the team prepares for the Pakistan series. The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s logistics department confirmed Hathurusingha’s arrival on Thursday evening. Meanwhile, on Friday night, Mushtaq Ahmed also returned to Dhaka amid all the uncertainties surrounding his future as Tigers’ spin bowling coach.
Following the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh's coaching staff have been on an extended break. However, this break has come to an end as Bangladesh need to start planning for the series against Pakistan.
As part of this preparation, head coach Chandika Hathurusingha arrived in Dhaka on Thursday night. Although Hathurusingha was initially scheduled to return on 25th July, visa complications caused a delay. He will commence the training camp for the Pakistan series from today (Saturday). Meanwhile, the head coach has already provided plans for the Champions Trophy. Jalal Yunus Chowdhury, head of the BCB's cricket operations department, shared this information last Wednesday.
Hathurusingha has already outlined his plans for the Champions Trophy, due to be held in February. Hathurusingha stated, "The coach has given some guidelines on what needs to be done for the Champions Trophy. Our selection panel and team management members are working according to these guidelines. Since the tournament is in February, there is still time. The coach will decide on the squad size and which players will be included."
Regarding whether Hathurusingha will remain as coach, he mentioned, "The decision to change the coach is made by the board.
So far, no such decision has been made. The selection of the coach and captain is always discussed and decided by the board."
