Following the 192-run defeat against visiting Sri Lanka in the second Test of the two-match series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Wednesday, hosts Bangladesh dropped from four to seventh position on the updated World Test Championship standings. Bangladesh suffered the first Test by 328-run when they earned 12 points with 25 percentage points.
Bangladesh won four out of seven matches, drawn one and lost two in the current Test championship cycle. South Africa shared the seventh position with Bangladesh with an equal number of wins, draws and defeats. Tigers will play their next series against Pakistan later this year when they will travel to Pakistan for two Test matches.
Meanwhile, the Islanders have boosted their chances of reaching next year’s ICC World Test Championship final after sweeping the series against Bangladesh.
The victory sees Sri Lanka overtake Pakistan and move up to fourth place on the updated World Test Championship standings with a 50 per cent points percentage, with India (first), Australia (second) and New Zealand (third) the only teams ahead of them. Sri Lanka still have two home series to upgrade their position in the points table. They will play against New Zealand later this year and at home will be played two Tests against Australia in early 2025.
