Tigers on way to World Cup

The national cricket team of Bangladesh left for India on Wednesday for the ODI World Cup which begins on October 5.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the World Cup team on Tuesday using social media after the third ODI match between Bangladesh and New Zealand. Shakib Al Hasan was chosen as the captain, and Najmul Hossain Shanto as his deputy.

The Bangladesh team decided not to include Tamim Iqbal as they were worried about his injuries. Ebadot Hossain couldn't play because of a knee-injury. So instead, Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who are younger, got the opportunity to play.

Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal said that the top management of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) told him not to play the first match against Afghanistan in the World Cup. They also offered him the choice to bat in the middle order if he plays.

Former ODI captain Tamim Iqbal shared in a 12-minute video on Wednesday where he said that he got surprised and angry because he had never been asked to bat towards the end of a game throughout his career.

Tamim said that there was something fishy going on there in the Bangladesh Cricket Board and that's why he chose not to participate in the World Cup ‘because of unfair treatment’.

The team will have two practice matches before the World Cup in Guwahati. They will play against Sri Lanka and England. The Tigers will start their World Cup journey by playing against Afghanistan in Dharamsala on October 7.

After that, the Tigers will play against England on October 10 in Dharamshala again, and Chennai will host the match between New Zealand on October 14.

Bangladesh will play against India in Pune on October 19 and Pakistan in Kolkata on October 31. Bangladesh's next match is against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 24. After that, they will play against Netherlands on October 28.

The Tigers will play against Sri Lanka in Delhi on November 6, before their final league game against Australia on November 11.

The 10-team tournament will start on October 5 in Ahmedabad. England, who won last time, will play against New Zealand, who came second in 2019.
