Tigers dropped off a golden opportunity to play the semifinal in the ICC Men’s T-20 World Cup when raising hope, they went down Pakistan in their last group match on Sunday.
Held at Adelaide, Tigers’ captain having the coins favoure decided to bat first and tipped off to make their dream true at their initial of both batting and bowling.
Earlier, After Netherlands made the biggest upset in the ongoing T-20 World Cup with a 13 runs win against South Africa, who were the favourites to be one of the semifinalists.
The defeat of South Africa created the golden chance for Bangladesh to make room in the semifinal but lacklustre batting at the middle and dropping important catch failed to grab the chance.
It looked Shakib’s decision was very much right when the openers Litton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto approached with an ideal attitude with attacking mood from the very first ball.
Bangladesh had gained a sizeable advantage batting first on a used pitch where shot-making got harder as time went on. Even halfway through, they were sitting well despite losing the most valuable wicket of Litton Das.
But the luck
Luck turned when Bangladesh reduced from 71 for one to 91 for four and Tigers batters were going to pavilion one after another within short intervals and finall bundled out for 127 runs. Only Afif Hossain was trying to revive but none of five batters could help him, they scored only 13 runs when no one could score any double figure. Haris launches an Ebadot short ball over square leg. That's the short boundary. Afif Hossain is there, looking directly into the sun. He does well to take the catch, right on the edge of the boundary, but then he runs out of space. He knows he's running out of space and tries to release the ball, but by then, his foot had trod on the rope.
In fact, the turning point of Bangladesh innings diminishing was losing Shakib Al Hassan the biggest casualty of Tigers. Shakib Al Hasan’s
wicket turned this game, adjudged lbw on field, and upheld on DRS even though he was absolutely certain he'd nicked the ball.
Bangladesh was 71 for 1 at that stage. After losing their captain and could get rid of the trouble.
Bangladesh's bowlers have been so impressive, digging it into the off-paced pitch when Taskin AHmed just strike on the third ball, but wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan failed to glove the ball.
Tigers also missed a run out chance of Newaz when Ebadot went on full and straight and Nawaz swings all across it. There was a big appeal for Lbw but umpire didn't care about it. It was just in the middle of the stumps. Pakistan try to nick a run, as the ball wanders away to point. Shanto, the fielder there, is switched on and grabbed the ball quickly. Got rid of it quicker when both Nawaz and Mohammad Haris were stuck at the middle of the pitch and nowhere in the frame. A direct hit at the strikers' end, Nawaz would've been out. The throw, with no one backing up, goes for four.
However, Tigers middle orders collapsed was the main reason of Tigers defeat.
