Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto has announced that his team is aiming for victories in both Test matches against India as they embarked on their journey to Chennai on today afternoon.
The team is scheduled to play two-match Test series followed by three T20Is. The first Test will commence in Chennai on September 19, with the second Test taking place in Kanpur starting September 27. The T20I series will follow thereafter.
Coming off a remarkable 2-0 series win against Pakistan at their home, the expectations are understandably high.
“This series is going to be a significant challenge for us,” Shanto stated to the media at the airport before their departure.
“Following a successful series, there’s a noticeable increase in confidence within the team and among our supporters. Each series is an opportunity. Our objective is to win both matches. The process is vital... our focus will be on executing our plans effectively. If we perform our tasks well, positive outcomes are within reach," the Bangladesh captain elaborated.
India have been unbeaten in Test series in home since their 2-1 defeat to Englanad in 2012-13 and Bangladesh have never won a Test match against India despite playing 13 matches when they managed two draws against 11 defeats. But the historical series victory against Pakistan boosted up Tigers’ capatain’s confidence. Bangladesh had never previously defeated Pakistan in Test cricket, but they returned home with a clean sweep. Despite the formidable challenge posed by India, Shanto remains optimistic.
"In terms of rankings, they are significantly ahead of us," Shanto acknowledged. "However, we've been performing well recently. Our objective is to play consistently over the five days. The outcome is often decided in the final session of the last day. If we play quality cricket throughout, there's a chance for either team to clinch victory in the final moments."
