Tigers experience hard truth of ‘Super Eight’

Bangladesh faced the hard truth of the ‘Super Eight’ stage, as they could hardly be more into the contest in any of their three matches of this phase when they showed of their familiar signs of fallibility in the matches against Australia, India and Afghanistan.

Despite a struggling progress into the second phase, it was highly expected that Bangladesh would do something impressive in the ‘Super Eight’ following three wins of group stage but disappointed much after going down in all three matches too miserably.

In fact, Bangladesh revealed their usual temper of foibles in the ‘Super Eight’ phase when they bitterly suffered the defeats.

Bangladesh began the campaign of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 swith defeating Sri Lanka, then went down fighting four-runs defeat to South Africa, who ultimately stormed into the semifinal. Bangladesh then won their last two matches in a row against Netherlands and Nepal to seal the ‘Super Eight’ place.

But none of those matters because Sri Lanka had to play in the qualifying phase for T20 World Cup and could win only one match against Netherlands, lost to South Africa and the match against Nepal was abandoned.

However, Bangladesh showed a kind of ‘Chokers’ character against South Africa in the first round and in the last match in the ‘Super Eight’ against Afghanistan. In the group stage against South Africa, they failed to score seven runs from last three balls when they had to struggle also against Nepal, as they were bowled out for 106 runs by 19.3 overs, failed to play full 20 overs.

Eventually, Bangladesh faced the materiality of the ‘Super Eight’ stage, as they looked very ill at ease and failed to seize the victory being at the advantageous position in the last match against Afghanistan, as it was simply their familiar signs of failures.

The every step forward of the Tigers was not at all impressive. Making room in the ‘Super Eight’ would probably drew attention of all that something would be better but nothing were good.

Shakib Al Hassan, the most capped T20 World Cup player, also agreed that they could realise the difference with the teams are participating to win the World Cup.

Considering the constant impressive performances of the Afghan team, who also made a big upset defeating Australia in the ‘Super Eight’,  it was not unpredictable that Bangladesh would lose the match against them (Afghanistan).

But the way they suffered the defeat it’s just horrible when eight batters were out for single digit and four of them for a duck each and ultimately failed to chase 115 runs target.
