The Bangladesh cricket team often suffers in ground fielding department. There is a famous cricketing cliché we all heard, catches win matches. We can relate this with Bangladesh team as Tigers failed to clinch so many victories because of miss catches in crunch moments of the game. This time, the fielding coach of the Bangladesh team Ryan Cook is seeing the urge to improve in various fielding departments. He is hopeful that cricketers will be able to improve in the next two years.
The cricketers continued their practice session for the third day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday ahead of the Windies series. The day before, they were seen practicing fielding for a long time at the beginning of the day. In addition to ground fielding, they also practiced throwing and catching.
"I think they have a lot of energy," Cook said. They are working hard on their fielding. They also want to do extra work and trying great which I like. They have a lot of work to do with the technique, especially with some aspects of catching and ground fielding. Their throwing is quite good. So I hope that their enthusiasm for improvement will help them improve in the next two years. '
This is the first time the Bangladesh team is going to play an international match after the lockdown through the Windies series. However, they have played two limited overs domestic tournaments at home. That is why the fielding coach thinks that there will be no problem on fielding side of the game even after this long stagnation. 'I think they have got some warm-up matches through ODIs and T20 tournaments. I was here during the fifty-over tournament and their fielding there was very admirable. Everyone should be healthy, fresh and ready.
"The players are back from a break after the T20 tournament," said Cook, adding that the cricketers would try to adapt slowly after a long absence. So I am slowly bringing them back into practice, working on their movement and basics on the field, trying to bring their throwing back to the previous place as they returned to the field after some time. In some cases, you may become a little unaccustomed to the injury. So I am trying to bring them to the previous place slowly. We will increase the intensity of practice as we get closer to the series.
Bangladesh-West Indies will play the first ODI on January 20 in Mirpur. The second match will be played on January 22 at the same venue. The last ODI will be played on January 25 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The first Test of the series will start on February 3 after a four-day warm-up match from January 28. The second Test will be played in Mirpur from February 11.
