Tigers aim for historic turnaround in WC

Bangladesh National Cricket Team has yet to secure a significant triumph in the T20 World Cup beyond the group stage. The Tigers have not reached the semi-finals, despite their consistent participation in every edition of the prestigious tournament since 2007.

Their journey to the Super Eights in the first edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 remains their crowning achievement in the abbreviated format of the game.

Though Tigers did not speak out with their targets or even expectation before their departure with the World Cup mission but some of the players just hinted in the social media (Facebook, Instagram) to do better in this edition than the previous.

Post-2007, Bangladesh faltered during the group stages for three successive tournaments.

Even as hosts in 2014, Mushfiqur Rahim's squad failed to capitalise on the home advantage. That year, the tournament expanded from 12 to 16 teams, with Bangladesh ranking at the lower end of the top ten. The Tigers also bowed out of the 2016 World Cup prior to the Super Ten phase. The global pandemic forced a five-year hiatus before the T20 World Cup resumed in 2021, hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Yet, the passage of time did not alter Bangladesh's fortunes, as they were once again eliminated early.

The Tigers returned home after their departure from the Super Twelve stage of the last T20 World Cup, which took place by the Tasman Sea.

This time, Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s team has the opportunity to sketch a new chapter in history by causing a stir at the T20 World Cup scheduled in the Americas and the Caribbean islands. The question remains: will they craft a tale of triumph, or will they return with a tale of unfulfilled aspirations?
