Tiger Robi ‘assaulted’ by Indian fans

Mohammed Robi, mostly known as ‘Tiger Robi’ a Super Fan of Bangladesh Cricket team claimed tat he was physically assaulted by a group of Indian supporters on Day 1 of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Friday.

Robi, who follows the Bangladesh national cricket team at home and abroad in different tournaments, said the media that during Chennai Test (first Test match off two-match series) a section of Indian fans made violent behavior with him.

Robi said that the desperate crowds did not let him to wave the national flag of Bangladesh at the gallery in Chennai, and on Friday in the first day of the second Test match, a group of 15 furious supporters physically assaulted him in Kanpur, the incident was occurred before launch break outside the gallery. At one stage, Robi became senseless and police rescued him and brought him to the hospital.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Bangladesh fans have been beaten up by Indian fans. Shoaib Ali Bukhari, known as ‘Tiger Shoaib’ was also targeted by the Indian fans during the match between India and Bangladesh in the 2023 ODI World Cup in Pune, when his Tiger mascot was also torn apart.

However, Robi claimed that the ferocious crowds were insulting him badly. Robi told the Indian Express, “A section of the crowd has been abusing me since the morning. Once lunch was called and I just started shouting the names of Najmul Shanto and Mominul Haque. Few of them started shoving me around, tried to tear my mascot (Tiger) and my flag, and when I resisted they started hitting me.” 

Meanwhile, three days ahead of the Kanpur Test, the Tiger Robi in his Face Book status wrote that a group of people was planning to attack him for bringing the Chennai incident to the media, but the Super Fan Tiger Robi did not specify anybody’s name. 

However, according to the Indian Express,  “The UP police have refuted Robi’s claim, saying he collapsed because of dehydration and wasn’t assaulted by anyone.”
