Chairman, vice chairman and woman vice chairman elected from Kaliganj upazila parishad (UZ) polls belong to same village, Arpara.
The people of the upazila had chosen them as their favourite representatives in the sixth UZ polls held on May 8.
Shibli Noman of Dargapara area elected UZ chairman, Shafiquzzaman Rasel of Nadipara elected vice chairman, while Shahanaz Parvin of Stadiumpara area of Arpara village was elected as woman vice chairman.
They are the residents under the municipal ward number 6 of the upazila. The victory of the newly-elected chairmen of same village had created happiness among the people of the area.
The polls results show five aspirants participated in the polls for the position of UZ chairman. Of them Shibli Nomani with the symbol ‘pineapple’ was elected having 42,675 votes. Four of his rivals had lost their security deposit as they could not get adequate votes.
Safiquzzaman Rasel with the symbol ‘Airplane’ secured the position of vice chairman bagging 29,143 votes. He is the convener of Kaliganj upazila unit Juba League. An Awami League activist Shanaz Parvin was elected woman vice chairman securing 35,629 votes in the Upazila election.
When contacted for his comments about the grand victory in the Upazila polls, the newly-elected Upazila Parishad chairman Shibli Nomani, said it was just the blessings of the Almighty where the voters of the Upazila had played a significant role to elect us.
They were committed to build the Upazila as the best one in the country with their utmost honesty, sincerity and skill towards the ‘Smart Bangladesh’ concept of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the betterment of the people.
