Three more factories of the country's garment industry have received environment-friendly certificates.
The recognized institutions are - Anant Huajing Limited of Narayanganj, Sepal Garments Limited of Gazipur and Unitex Spinning Limited of Sitakunda, Chittagram (second unit).
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) informed on Saturday. As a result, the number of environment friendly factories in the country increased to 229.
In order to obtain US Green Building Council (USGBC) environmental friendly certification, a factory scores more than 80 out of a total of 110 marks and is awarded 'Lead Platinum', 60-79 marks 'Lead Gold', 50-59 marks 'Lead Silver' and 40-49 marks are awarded 'Lead Certified' certificate.
Anant Huajing of Narayanganj got gold certificate with 63 marks and Sepal Garments of Gazipur got lead platinum certificate with 85 marks. Apart from this, Unitex Spinning (Second Unit) of Sitakunda got Platinum certificate with 83 marks.
Nine of the world's top 10 eco-friendly factories are in Bangladesh. Among them, SM Sourcing of Gazipur's Konabari has been recognized as the world's top eco-friendly factory by getting the highest number. The factory scored 106 out of 110 marks.
Other top eco-friendly factories in the country are Green Textiles in Mymensingh, Net Asia and Integra Dresses in Gazipur, Remy Holdings and Fatulla Apparels in Narayanganj, Lida Textiles and Dyeing and Lease Fashion Industries in Gazipur and Tarasima Apparels in Manikganj.
In addition, 56 of the world's 100 environment friendly green factories, i.e. more than half of the factories are in Bangladesh. Green factory or environment friendly green factory is increasing in the country day by day.
The journey of eco-friendly factories in the country started in 2012 by the hand of clothing industry entrepreneur Sajjadur Rahman Mridha.
