Three people were killed and another was critically injured as they were hit by a truck in Maitkumra area on Lohagora-Kalna-Dhaka highway under Lohagora upazila of Narail on Tuesday midnight.
The deceased were identified as Shamim Sheikh, 20, son of Hemayet Sheikh, Zia Biswas, 45, son of Ramzan Biswas and Rasel Molla, 19, son of Jamal Molla, residents of Maitkumra village of the upazila.
Police said Rasel's grandmother had passed away and four people were carrying a stretcher (Khatia) from the mosque to their home to carry her body. As they reached at the Maitkumra area at about 12:00am, a truck coming from Lohagora hit them. Three people died on the spot and another was critically injured, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagora Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun said.
The injured was taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was referred to Narail Sadar Hospital for better treatment, the OC added.
