Three people were killed in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a truck in Satkhira on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Arizul Islam, 28, son of Akbar Islam, resident of Jhikargacha area in Jashore, Selim Sardar, 35, son of Aziz Sardar, resident of Sujanshah area in Tala upazila, and Md Asad Fakir, 45, son of Shamsur Rahman Fakir, resident of Jetua village in the upazila.
The incident occurred on Khulna-Satkhira highway in Binerpota area in Satkhira on early Thursday.
Arizul Islam has been living in his father-in-law’s house for the last few years. He carries passengers to various areas in his motorcycle to earn his living.
The eyewitnesses said motorcyclist Arizul Islam was heading towards Tala on early Thursday. There were two pillion passengers, Asad Fakir and Selim Sardar, riding with him. On their way, when they reached the area near Binerpota Abdur College, a dumper truck coming from Khulna towards Satkhira collided with them at high speed and fled the scene. As a result, the driver and the two passengers died on the spot. The police later arrived at the scene and took the bodies to the sadar hospital for further proceedings.
Officer-in-Charge of Satkhira sadar police station Bishwajit Kumar Sarkar said the bodies are kept at Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Highway police is in-charge of the case.
