It is learned that three persons including a school teacher of Mirzaganj are missing in the fire of launch MV Expedition-10 bound for Barguna from Dhaka.
Irene Akhter Rima, wife of Shahin Sikder of Lemua village, his daughter Lima Akhter (12) and son Md. Ronnie Sikder was coming home after launching Expedition-10.
Shahin Sikder worked for a company in Dhaka. Mourning has been going on in the family of Lemua village of the upazila since the incident. He was coming from Dhaka by launch. Missing Irene Akhter's brother-in-law Babu Sikder said on his mobile phone that there were three people on the second floor of the deck of the launch. After the fire broke out, three people went to the third floor of the launch. When the fire spread slowly, Ronnie Sikder swam and told his mother to jump too. Ronnie Sikder jumped from the third floor of the launch. By then Ronnie's two legs were burned. After swimming in the river for forty minutes,he reached the shore. However, he repeatedly told his mother to jump in the river but she did not know how to swim. Ronnie is currently undergoing treatment at Barisal Medical Hospital.
Meanwhile, no trace of Jahanara Begum, an assistant teacher of North Kismat Srinagar Government Primary School in Mirzaganj Upazila, was found in the Barguna-bound launch fire and her husband is currently admitted in Barisal Medical, said Md Abdur Razzaque, president of Mirzaganj Upazila Branch of Bangladesh Primary Teachers Association.
