Three films from Bangladesh at Mumbai Film Festival

Three films from Bangladesh—'Santao,' directed by Khandkar Suman; 'Patal Ghar,' directed by Noor Imran Mithu; and 'Nona Pani,' directed by Syeda Nigar Banu—are set to participate in the Third Eye Asian Film Festival 2024 in Mumbai. The 20th edition of the event will be held from January 12 to 18.

The story of the movie ‘Santao’ revolves around a girl named Putul and her beloved cow. Putul and the cow conceive at the same time. Unfortunately, Putul loses her baby, and the cow also dies after giving birth. In the midst of all these hardships, Putul finds a new sense of motherhood in her orphaned calf, Lalu.The film 'Santao' presents the story of the struggling life of a farmer, the universal form of women's motherhood, and the joys and sorrows, laughter and tears of a harmonious community.

The lead roles in the film are played by Aunun Putul and Fazlul Haque. The film was recently released on the 'Amazon Prime Video' OTT platform. It can also be enjoyed on Bioscope in Bangladesh.

Additionally, 'Patal Ghar,' a story of psychological tension between a mother and a daughter, stars Afsana Mimi, Nusraat Faria, Mamunur Rashid, Salahuddin Lovlu, Gias Uddin Selim, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Nazia Haque Orsha, Deepanwita Martin, Rawnak Hasan, Nasir Uddin Khan, Moutushi Biswas, and Arfan Mredha Shiblu, among others.

On the other hand, the film 'Nona Pani' is based on a few characters from a village in the southern part of Khulna. The story is set in the present-day context of their daily lives. Nasir Uddin Khan, Joyita, Bilkis Banu, Rubel, and many other actors acted in the film.

'Nona Pani' has not been released in Bangladesh yet. The film will be screened for the first time in Bangladesh on January 26 at 7 pm in the main auditorium of the National Museum in Dhaka.
