238 Awami League (AL) and its front organizations activists including three former lawmakers of Jhenaidah were sued in a case with Jhenaidah police station on Sunday noon.
They were sued for their alleged involvement in vandalizing and setting fire to the house of Jhenaidah unit BNP president Advocate MA Mazid on July 4. Ripon Biswas, a nephew of MA Mazid, filed the case (case number 27/24), said the police station sources.
The main accused in the case were former MP of Jhenaidah- 1 Nayeb Ali Joarder, Jhenaidah- 2 former MP and Jhenaidah district unit Awami League president Shafiqul Islam Apu and another ex-lawmaker Tahjib Alam Siddiquee Somi.
The case statement said during the quota reform movement by the students, the AL men and their supporters attacked the house of MA Mazid in Kalabagan area of the district town on July 4. All the belongings of the house were burnt to ashes.
Paglakanai union parishad (UP) chairman Abu Sayeed, AL leader JM Rashidul Alam, Jiban Kumar Biswas, Juba League convener Ashfaque Mahmud John, Walton Jahangir and Sramik League Jhenaidah district unit president Akkas Ali were among the other accused.
Jhenaidah police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Uddin said a case was filed against 238 persons including three ex-lawmakers of the district and some other influential leaders. The police were trying to nab the accused following the allegation. The police also arrested four persons from Jhenaidah in this connection so far, the OC said.
