A three-day-long Agricultural Technology Fair aiming to introduce the farmers to sophisticated agro-technology starts at the Helipad Field of Natore on Thursday.
Shafiqul Islam Shimul, Member of Parliament of Natore-2 ( Natore Sadar-Naldanga) constituency was present there as the chief guest while Sarmina Satter, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Natore presided over the function.
While speaking, MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul said, “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman introduced the 'Green Revolution' programme for the development of Agriculture in the country. By following the path of Bangabandhu, the incumbent farmers' friendly government headed by Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina is working relentlessly for the development of agriculture and the farmers.”
“Bangladesh has turned into a food surplus country from a food deficit country by adopting several measures including paying of subsidy and incentives for farmers, decreasing the price of fertilisers and diesel, mechanisation of agriculture, supplying of new agro-technologies and inventing of new, improved varieties of seed through research. After the Food Security, we should now ensure safe food, mentioned the chief guest.” He added.
The function was attended and addressed, among others, by Abdul Wadud, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Deptt, Rajshahi division, as the special guest, Jubayer Habib, Assitant Commissioner ( land), Natore, Abdullah Al Sakib Baki and Kamrunnaher Kajol, Vice-Chairmen of Natore Sadar Upazila Parishad, Nasim Ahmed, Officer-in-charge of Natore police station, Dilip Kumar Das, AL leader and Basirur Rahman Khan Chowdhury Yeahea, President of distinct Jubo League.
Nilima Jahan, Upazila Agriculture Officer of Natore informed, a total of 30 stalls have been set up at the fair for exhibition. The farmers could learn about the new agro-technology including Plant Doctor Clinic, Vermi Compost, the technique of using fallow land, mechanisation of the farm, taking care of the fruit orchard, family nutrition garden, bio-insecticides, rooftop gardening and poly net house.
After the inaugural function, MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul distributed seeds of Aman Paddy among 800 small and marginal farmers and summer onion seeds to 100 farmers.
