Three-day inter-university athletics competition kicks off at JUST

A three-day inter-university athletics competition has begun at the Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST).

The competition was inaugurated at JUST central playground on Wednesday. Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals and Member of Board of Regents of JUST Md. Nasser Shahriar Zahedi was present as the chief guest. The competition will end on May 19 with the prize distribution ceremony.

In the speech of the chief guest at the opening ceremony Md. Naser Shahriar Zahedi said that knowledge and wisdom are practiced in the university. However, the practice of this knowledge and wisdom requires a ‘healthy body, healthy mind’. The combination of these two will further advance the practice of knowledge and wisdom of the university.

He said to the participating students, ‘You have come to this competition with a spirit of sportsmanship. Hope this sportsmanship will last longer within you.’

He also said Jashore University of Science and Technology has made many names in sports. Hope it continues.

JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said, “In building a healthy nation, there is no alternative to healthy people. Therefore, in order to stay healthy, you have to do sports and exercise in addition to your studies.” 

He said that such competitions create great opportunities for mutual friendship and bonding among students of different universities.

JUST Physical Education and Sports Science Department Chairman Professor Dr. also spoke at the event. Md. Zafirul Islam, Director of Physical Education Department Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam. Tabassum Islam Nabani, Lecturer of English Department of JUST conducted the program. SM Sharafat administered the oath on behalf of the expert judges and Umme Hafsa Rumki administered the oath on behalf of the players.

Around two hundred players from 15 universities participated in the inter-university athletics competition. Around 100 teachers and officials accompanied the players in nearly 30 events. There are also more than 80 expert judges for various events.
