Banshkhali Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Umar Faruq has arrested three persons and confiscated two trucks and sand extraction in Puichhari area of Banshkhali upazila.
The operation was conducted till Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Director of Chattogram Environment Department Md. Ferdous Anwar, Assistant Director Md. Ashraf Uddin and SI Azim Uddin were present on the occasion. Executive Magistrate Umar Faruq said there were allegations that some unscrupulous persons were extracting sand from the rhyme of Jungle Puichhari Mouza every day. As a result, three people were detained during the operation today and two sand trucks and 3,000 cubic feet of sand were seized.
He said the list has already been sent to the Department of Environment, Chattogram after receiving complaints and information from local people's representatives and individuals involved in illegal sand mining. Legal action will be taken against them.
Banshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saiduzzaman Chowdhury said that the concerned authorities have been informed to take legal action against those involved in illegal sand extraction.
