Thousands throng to enjoy bullock cart race

Bullocks that are usually used for land ploughing and other domestic uses now have become a means of giving joy to people with their skills. Some organizers belonging to once terrorist prone village Betai in Jhenidah Sadar upazila said they have proved it by gathering thousands of people to a traditional bullock cart race with 38 pairs of bullock carts from Jhenaidah, Magura, Jashore and Chauadanga.

Ex-chairman of Ganna union parishad in Jhenaidah Sadar Abdul Wahab and his associate Ex-General Secretary of Jhenidah Chhatra League Atiqul Hasan Masum organised the race. Some Abu Sayeed of Khalishpur under Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah won the trophy and bagged a cow defeating Khalidur Rahman of Bagherpara of Jashore. 

Khaledur Rahman bagged a bicycle while Amirul Khan of hosting Betai village received a goat by securing the third position.

Some elderly citizens and young boys when asked about their reaction said it was a joyous event for them as they have enjoyed such an event for the first time. Islamic University students Rabeya Akter and Solaiman Amin when contacted at the event premises said the rural and traditional Bangladeshi games are declining faster. So, this sort of games should be organized frequently, they said.

Chief Guest of the event Saidul Kari Mntu, Mayor of Jhenaidah municipality and General Secretary of Jhenaidah Awami League in his reaction said this sort of traditional events might reduce all types of crimes among the young generation. 

Praising the present peaceful environment and situation of the once crime and terrorists prone village Betai he said recreation is one of the best way to make honest citizens in a peaceful environment. Government assistance in patronizing this sort of events might play a positive role in the society, he added.
