Agriculture Minister and Awami League presidium member Dr Md Abdur Razzaque said the anti-independence and defeated forces of 1971 had assassinated Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975. That same force is chanting the slogan 'Let the roar of seventy-five weapons rise again'. They want to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the leader of humanity, but, the people of this country and the leaders and workers of Awami League will deal with them severely. '75 will never be repeated in this country.

The Agriculture Minister said this while addressing a discussion meeting on Environment Day at the National Museum auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday. The sub-committee on forest and environment of Bangladesh Awami League organized a discussion meeting titled 'One World: Bangladesh Perspectives and World Environment Day'. The minister said Bangladesh is at high risk of climate change. Climate change could threaten the country's food security system. With this in mind, the government is working hard to tackle the effects of climate change. The present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on the right track in tackling climate change. The SDGs are also on track to achieve their goals.

"Whether climate change or not, our challenge in agriculture is the same, that is food security," he said. That is why we are emphasizing on increasing agricultural production in tandem with climate change and tackling adversity. Emphasis is being laid on the development and expansion of varieties of different crops including paddy suitable for cultivation in climate change tolerant or unfavorable environment. Many varieties of salt, submerged, drought tolerant have already been developed and are being expanded.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim and Awami League Central Committee member Reazul Kabir Kawshar spoke as special guests on the occasion. Professor Khandaker Bazlul Haque, chairman of the sub-committee on forest and environment, and Selka Halim, professor of sociology at Dhaka University, Aftab Ali Sheikh, chairman of BCSIR and Kawshar Rahman, senior journalist of Dainik Janakantha spoke on the occasion.
