The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Chattogram has arrested 6 people involved in the theft of 11 tonnes of raw cotton including cargo from Sitakunda police station. Meanwhile, 10 bundles of raw cotton, 2 covered vans, 1 cargo were seized. The market price of raw cotton is Tk 40 lakh.
PBI Superintendent of Police Nazmul Hasan disclosed this information in a press conference at PBI Chattogram district office on Sunday morning.
They were arrested from Bhola district and Chattogram metropolitan area in separate raids on November 30 and December 2. The arrested were identifies as Md Rubel (24), Mohan alias Sujan Driver (27), Amirul Islam (28), Md Zainal (26), Nurnabi Shaon (22) and Md Jaisul (23).
The PBI Police Superintendent said that at 9 pm on November 24, the members of the gang stole the imported cotton from the Sitakunda Port Link Depot on the way to the factory in Bhulta area of Narayanganj. Abdullah Al Munim, regional operations in-charge of Mokam Ltd in this incident, requested PBI's assistance in recovering cotton. Following his complaint, with the help of information technology, on November 30, Md. Rubel was arrested.

Later, according to the information given by him, on the same day, Sujan driver, the leader of the gang, was arrested from Ilsha Ferighat area of Bhola Sadar police station along with the covered van used for theft. Then on December 1, Abdullah Al Munim filed a case with Sitakunda Police Station as the plaintiff.
Four other people were arrested from different areas of Chattogram city during raids on Saturday night.
Police Superintendent Nazmul Hasan said that two covered vans, a cargo and 10 bundles of raw cotton were recovered.
He said that the company imported 48 bundles of raw cotton from America. The value of these cottons is about Tk 40 lakh. All those arrested are members of a gang. Among them, Sujan driver committed the incident of theft of imported goods in the same manner before. Those arrested on November 30 were sent to court on December 1 through Sitakunda police station. The four arrested persons were produced in the court on Sunday afternoon.
