Peacock has announced new cast members for its upcoming series, "The Paper," a sequel to the beloved sitcom "The Office." The show will follow a group of reporters at a struggling newspaper and is set in the same universe as "The Office."
Joining the cast are Melvin Gregg, known for "Snowfall" and "Nine Perfect Strangers," Chelsea Frei from "The Moodys" and "The Cleaning Lady," and Ramona Young, who starred in "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Never Have I Ever." Earlier, it was revealed that Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore will also have leading roles.
Lisa Katz, president of Scripted Content at NBCU Entertainment, shared her enthusiasm about the new series. She noted that despite "The Office" ending over a decade ago, it continues to draw new audiences, especially on Peacock. Katz highlighted the show’s fresh setting—a daily newspaper—and the potential for humor it brings.
"The Paper" is created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, who will also be executive producers. They are joined by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the creators of the original UK version of "The Office," along with Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
The series is confirmed to be in the same universe as "The Office," but it is unclear if any original cast members will appear. Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott, has hinted he is unlikely to return, while Rainn Wilson, who portrayed Dwight Schrute, has shown openness to a cameo. Wilson mentioned that although he is unsure how Dwight could fit into the new setting, he would be happy to be involved if asked. Currently, "The Paper" does not have a set premiere date.
