The country's temperature dropped by more than 2 degrees Celsius and stood below 10 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
‘Poush’, the first month of winter of the Bengali calendar, is likely to bring about winter at full swing.
The meteorological department has forecast a mild cold spell in the northern part of the country starting tomorrow.
The lowest temperature in the country on Sunday was 9.9 degrees Celsius in Tentulia. The minimum temperature in Dhaka was at 18.2 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature in the country on Saturday was 12 degrees Celsius in Tentulia.
Meteorologist Abul Kalam told Bangladesh Post that the minimum temperature in the country dropped to 9.9 degrees on Sunday in Tentulia and condition for the approach of a cold wave is for the temperature to drop below 10 degrees.
“However, it cannot be said that the cold wave has just started because for that to be claimed, the temperature has to stay below 10 degrees for two-three days. Furthermore, the temperature has to go below 10 degrees in multiple areas,” he said.
Even though the temperature in Tentulia dropped below 10 degrees, other conditions were not met so it cannot be said that the wave has already begun but it is highly likely, he added.
He further said that by the next day of two, the temperature may drop further. Consequently, a mild cold wave may start in the north, however, it will not be too much below 10 degrees. For now it will be difficult to get below 8 degrees. The temperature will drop more in other parts of the country.

"For the time being, the cold wave that may start in the north will be mild. It is unlikely to be moderate or severe at this time. There is no possibility of a cold wave in other parts of the country,” he said.
According to the forecast for the next 24 hours, the night temperature across the country may drop by one to two degrees Celsius and the day temperature may slightly decrease.
