Teesta swells: 44 gates of Barrage kept open

A few days of heavy rain and the slopes of the upstream hills suddenly raised the water level in the river Teesta. As a result, the authorities have opened 44 gates at Dalia Point of Teesta Barrage. The water flow at Teesta Barrage Point, the largest irrigation project in the country, was recorded at 52.05 cm at 12 noon on Thursday. Which flows 55 cm below the danger level (52.60 cm).

Residents along the river said that the downpour increased due to continuous rain for several days and the water level in Ghazaldoba Barrage in India exceeded the danger level. As a result, the flow of water has increased at Dahlia Point of Teesta Barrage. Although the water level of Teesta river in the district is still below the danger level. However, low lying areas along Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur rivers have been submerged. The dried up dead Teesta has blossomed again. They are fearing floods.

Rangpur Water Development Board Executive Engineer Ahsan Habib said, now is the rainy season. The river water is rising. All the water gates have been opened to control the 

situation. 

Floods occur in June every year. That is why the people of Tistapar are being asked to be careful. The Water Development Board is ready to deal with the flood situation.
