A teenager boy was killed due to onrush of upstream water in Pohorchanda Bibirkhil area under Boroitoli union at Chakaria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Friday.
The deceased was identified Md Habib, 13, son of Md Jasim Uddin, resident of the area.
Officer-in-Charge of Chakaria Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Ali and Boroitoli Union Parishad Chairman Mohammad Chhalekuzzaman confirmed the matter.
Boroitoli Union Parishad Chairman Mohammad Chhalekuzzaman said heavy rain triggered onrush of upstream water in Boroitoli. The water was flowing over Sonaichhari Chharakhal and the local road. Meanwhile, three children, including Habib, were going towards Pohorchanda Bazar at around 11:30am. In the meantime, they swept away by the current of onrush of the upstream water. Two of them swam and managed to save their lives. However, Habib swept away and drowned in the water. After a while, locals recovered his body. Police was informed about the matter.
Officer-in-Charge of Chakaria Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Ali said an unnatural death case was filed About the death of the child who was swept away by the onrush of water.
