The National Teachers' Forum has called for the inclusion of Islamic scholars in the coordination committee responsible for revising textbooks. This demand was made by the central president of the forum, Professor Nasir Uddin Khan, during an emergency meeting held on Sunday.
Professor Nasir Uddin stated that although a committee has been formed to coordinate the preparation and printing of textbooks by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board, it lacks representation from Islamic scholars. He emphasized the need for people with deep religious knowledge to be part of the committee, as the textbooks contain sensitive content related to religious ideology and moral values.
He further explained that sections 4 and 6 of the committee's scope of work require reviewing the textbooks for religious and political sensitivities, including the appropriateness of pictures, diagrams, and information. Nasir Uddin believes that scholars with a strong understanding of religion should be involved in correcting and refining such content.
The forum also urged the removal of any controversial individuals from the committee. The meeting, chaired by Secretary General Abdus Sabur, saw strong support from other members, including Senior Vice President MAU ABM Zakaria and Joint Secretary General Ishtiaq Mu Al Amin.
In conclusion, the National Teachers' Forum emphasized the importance of including Islamic scholars in the committee to ensure that the textbooks align with religious and moral standards, as outlined in Section 8 of the committee’s scope of work.
