The Finance Minister presented a budget of Tk 7 lakh 97 thousand crore for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Thursday. Last year, teachers and employees under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme received a 5% special incentive along with government officials. Sources from the Ministry of Finance suggest that this incentive may continue this year as well.
There is a high chance government employees will receive the 5% incentive in this year's budget too. There has been positive discussion about continuing the incentive, and it is likely to proceed if the Prime Minister approves it. If government employees get the special incentive, teachers and employees under MPO are expected to receive it as well.
Last year, teachers and staff of private educational institutions under MPO received an incentive of 5% of their basic salary starting from July. The Finance Department of the Ministry of Finance issued a notification confirming that teachers and employees under MPO would get this special benefit from 1 July every year, with a minimum of 1 thousand rupees. This order was also posted on the Ministry of Education's website.
MPO stands for 'Monthly Pay-Order', which covers the government portion of salaries for teachers and staff of private educational institutions. Additionally, these teachers and employees receive benefits
like Boishakhi allowance and annual salary increments from the government.
If everything goes smoothly, teachers and employees under MPO will continue to benefit from this 5% special incentive this year.
