A medical college teacher has been accused of shooting a student named Arafat Amin Tamal, at Shahid M Mansoor Ali Medical College in Sirajganj.
All the medical students are protesting against the incident and sought punishment to the teacher involved in the incident. Law enforcement forces are working to control the situation.
The incident occurred Monday (March 4) around 4 pm during the forensic medicine item class of Shahid M Mansoor Ali Medical College and Hospital.
According to the college students, Dr Raihan Sharif used to threaten the students at various times. The college authority did not take any action despite filing complaint to the higher authority against the teacher. Dr Rayhan Sharif is a teacher of community medicine and takes classes in the forensics department. He often carried a pistol during taking class.
This afternoon, during the class, the teacher suddenly shot Arafat Amin Tamal, a student of the 3rd year of the 2021-22 academic year of the 8th batch, during the class with an indigenous pistol. Tamal was being treated at the emergency department of the hospital.
According to the students, teacher Raihan Sharif shot Tamaler in presence of 45 students during viva voce on Monday. The students announced class boycott to demand the punishment of the teacher. Later, Tamal was admitted to the hospital.
District Intelligence Branch (DB) Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zulhaj Uddin confirmed this information and said that the teacher used to bring a pistol to the class every day. Today at around 5 pm, teachers and students had an argument over a trivial matter. At one point, the teacher could not control his anger and fired. At that time, student Arafat Amin was injured in the shooting. After this incident, the teacher was taken into custody.
