Bangladesh Tea Board on Tuesday fined various businesses in Chattogram for selling unhealthy tea leaf.
Bangladesh Tea Board Deputy Secretary and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Ruhul Amin led the operation on Tuesday.
Tea board has cancelled the retailer license (no-11007599) and bidder license (no-12007939) of Khwaja Ajmer Tea House for violating the conditions of tea license. Bandh conducted these operations on last October 5, Akbar Shah area for the sale of unapproved brands of tea to the company called AR Traders 50 thousand taka; 50,000 taka for the crime of storing and selling 10 tons of rotten tea to M/s. Pial Mart in Doublemooring area on October 2; On September 27, Khwaja Ajmer Tea House of Chandgaon area was fined Tk 20,000 for the offense of stocking outside tea, not having a blender license and packing and selling rotten tea in unsanitary conditions; On September 26, the court imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on B Baria Tea House for not having a blender license and Tk 15,000 on a businessman named Abdus Salam for doing business without a blender license.
Tea Board Executive Magistrate Ruhul Amin said, “The mobile court is working to bring under the law those involved in operating businesses without a license, illegally stocking tea outside of auction and selling unsanitary rotten tea. This campaign will continue across the country to ensure a healthy environment in the tea business
The mobile court of the Tea Board seized 21 sacks of tea and 1,200 packets of illegal tea in total 1,700 kg of illegal tea in Bahdarhat area of the city.
There is a very active community in Chattogram for a long time with adulterated and low quality tea leaves. These illegal businesses are being carried out openly, avoiding the supervision of the administration.
Buyers of these attractively packaged tea leaves are not less. In the last one week, 10 tons of rotten tea was seized by raids in various business organization of Chattogram for the crime of not having a blending license of the tea board, stocking of illegal tea outside the auction, selling unapproved brands in unsanitary environment, rotten and smelly tea packets.
The traveling court of the tea board imposed a fine of Tk 1 lakh 85
thousand.
Tea Board Marketing Officer Ahsan Habib, Assistant Director Abdullah Al Borhan, Photographer Shah Akib Mortuza and policemen of Chandgaon Police Station participated in the operation.
According to experts, drinking tea with these tea leaves can cause various complex diseases including cancer.
