The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has taken necessary preparations ahead of the holy month of Ramadan through importing commodities as well as local procurement of items.
As part of its huge activities, the TCB would sell some 20,000 metric tons of lentil, two crore liters of edible oil and 10,000 metric tons of sugar every month alongside selling onion and potatoes across the country through imports under the directives of the Ministry of Commerce.
Apart from this, the TCB would sale 10,000 metric tons of chickpeas and 1,500 metric tons of dates during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Chief of TCB's Dhaka Regional Office and also spokesperson of the Corporation Md Humayun Kabir informed this while addressing a press conference at the Regional office at Tejgaon in the capital.
Humayun said the TCB has been working with the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to provide commodities among the garment workers alongside providing essential items and commodities among some one crore family card holders.
Besides, TCB's truck sale is going on at 50 spots in Dhaka and 20 spots in Chattogram following the directives of the government. If necessary, the coverage of such arrangements would be increased, he added.
The TCB spokesperson said work is on to prepare smart family cards so that more than one person of a family could not avail commodities through a family card.
Humayun informed that so far some 57 lakh TCB's family smart cards have been made.
The press conference was also informed that the current number of dealers of the TCB is now 8,250.
