Tax payers urged to pay tax for country’s development

National Income Tax Day observed across the country

The National Income Tax Day-2019 was observed across the country to raise awareness on income tax and encourage people to pay taxes regularly.

This year’s slogan was “Shobai miley debo kor, desh hobey shonirbhor” (Let’s all pay taxes, and make the country self-reliant).

Marking the day, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and others brought out colourful processions in all divisional cities, district towns and other parts of the country.

In Khulna, a colourful procession was brought out in the city in the morning  which was inaugurated by Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque, reports our Khulna Correspondent.

In his inaugural speech, KCC Mayor said taht the eligible tax payers must pay their taxes eagerly for country’s development as fear and hassle of tax payers have already been removed with the simplification of the tax payment procedure by the National Board of Revenue .

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Mohammad Habibul Haque Khan, Commissioner of Khulna Income Tax Zone Proshanta Kumar Roy and Joint Commissioner Monjur Alam, among others, were present.

In Rajshahi, speakers at a discussion said there is no alternative to enhance tax collection for improving living and livelihood condition of the countrymen, reports our Rajshahi Correspondent.

Income Tax Zone of Rajshahi organised the discussion on its office premises. On the occasion, a colourful rally was also brought out in the divisional town.

Income Tax Commissioner Dr Khandaker Ferdous Alam, Tax Appellate Commissioner Md Masud and Joint Commissioner Ashique Rana, among others, addressed the discussion.

Dr Ferdous Alam said that the enhanced tax collection from the internal resources could be an effective means of reducing dependence on foreign aid for executing the uplift programmes. He also said income tax worth Taka 18.06 was collected in the week-long fair that concluded here on November 20. A total of 34,1154 returns were submitted and 1,05,291 taxpayers received their income tax related services in the fair while 2,904 taxpayers received TIN certificates here.

According to him, the department of Rajshahi zone realized income taxes worth around Taka 741 crore in last 2018-19 fiscal year up by Taka 67.51 crore than the previous fiscal.

In Rangpur, officials at a pre-rally discussion called for paying income tax spontaneously with patriotic zeal. The discussion was arranged by Tax Commissioner Office of Rangpur Taxes Zone on its premises.

Deputy Police Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md Mohidul Islam attended the discussion as the chief guest with Tax Commissioner for Taxes Zone-Rangpur Md Abdul Latif in the chair. Additional Tax Commissioner of Taxes Zone-Rangpur Sheikh Md Moniruzzaman and Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle B) Maruf Ahmed addressed the discussion as special guests.

The speakers lauded various pragmatic steps taken by the NBR for increasing number of taxpayers and enabling them in paying income tax easily.

In Bogura, a colorful rally and meeting was held on the premises of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office in the morning.  DC of Bogura Foyez Ahmed and Tax Commissioner Shwapon Kumer Roy inaugurated the rally, reports our Bogura Correspondent.

The rally was started from the DC office and ended at the same place after rounded the town.

In the meeting, Foyez Ahmed said,  ‘We have to encourage all for giving tax. So that, officials should come forward to submit their tax easily.’

At that time, additional police super Taposh Kumer Pal, President of Bogura Chamber of Commerce Masudur Rahman Milon, Joint Tax Commissioner Mohammad Masum Billal, Deputy Tax Commissioner Habibur Rahman, President of Taxes Lawers' Association Advocate Abdul Hamid along with others were also present.
