A Dhaka court has placed Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, former energy adviser to ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on a four-day remand for questioning in connection with the death of 31-year-old Suman Sikdar during the quota reform protests in Badda on July 19.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider issued the remand order on Wednesday after police presented Tawfiq-e-Elahi in court with a prayer for a 10-day remand, as confirmed by a sub-inspector in the court.
On August 20, Masuma, Suman's mother, filed a murder case with Badda Police Station against Sheikh Hasina and 179 others. Tawfiq-e-Elahi was arrested from the Gulshan area of the capital last night.
He served as Hasina's energy adviser from 2009 until August 5.
