In accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Commerce for market monitoring in maintaining reasonable prices, a task force conducted an operation at the kitchen markets in the city’s Jatrabari, area on Monday.
The operation was led by Executive Magistrate Omar Faruk from the Dhaka District Administration. A total of Tk 7,000 was fined as 13 vegetables vendors were found taking high prices of their vegetable items reasonlessly.
The task force uncovered various manipulative practices among the vegetable vendors in the Jatrabari market, including wholesalers, middlemen, and retailers.
The vendors were found to be operating entirely without documentation, lacking both purchase and sales receipts, and conducting their business according to their wish.
The task force instructed all vendors to collect and provide purchase and sales receipts. Strict orders were given to display price lists prominently, with a clear warning that legal action would be taken in case of non- compliance.
Market president and secretary were present and reminded to keep the market office open at all times and provide a list of vendors. Additionally, the market committee was directed to install signboards indicating fixed market prices for products and to warn all vendors accordingly. The ongoing market monitoring and operations by the Dhaka District task force against profiteering and market-disturbing practices will continue unabated.
