Tapash Datta awarded PhD by Rabindra Bharati University

Outstandingly talented singer Tapash Datta received the certificate of his PhD degree from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, recently. Tapas Datta received his PhD in Agra Gharana under the supervision of Chandrani Das from the Department of Vocal Music in 2020. The convocation ceremony of the university was halted for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The convocation was held on 8th May on the university premises where he received the PhD certificate at the illustrious ceremony. 

In 2004, he went to India to study music with the scholarship of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). In 2007, he passed the Bachelor of Music (Honours) course in Indian Classical Music with first class first result from the University of Calcutta. He passed MA in Classical Vocal Music from Rabindra Bharati University in 2009 with first class result. Later, he received his PhD from the Department of Vocal Music in 2020 from Rabindra Bharati University. As a scholar of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, Tapas Datta received advanced training of vocal music under the supervision of renowned music Guru Pandit Arun Bhaduri.

Dr Tapash Datta has already created a unique position in the Bengali music arena of West Bengal as well as in Bangladesh, especially in the field of classical music. He became well-known in West Bengal's musical circles through his unique results in higher studies in music at the University of Calcutta and later at the Rabindra Bharati University. Apart from classical music, as a versatile talent in music, he has become popular among all kinds of music-loving people. He is equally deft in singing all kinds of songs including Nazrul and Rabindra Sangeet, Kirtan, Bhajan, Modern and Folk.

Earlier he won first prize in Khayal and Tarana Competition in Classical Music category at the University of Calcutta, second prize in Paschim Banga Rajya Sangeet Academy’s classical music competition and gold medal of Bangiya Sangeet Kala Kendra. 

"CityCell-Channel I Award" recipient Dr Tapas Datta is a Class 'A' vocal music artist of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television. He regularly performs music on various TV channels in Kolkata, especially on Ganabani FM, JU FM Channel, Tara Music, Aakash Eight, Amar Channel etc. He performed music on Channel I, RTV, NTV, Maasranga TV in Dhaka. As a trainer he participated in different districts of Bangladesh in classical music training workshop programmes of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Founder of the 'Darbare Music School of Tapash Datta', Dr Tapas Datta has taught music at Shakhri Begum Memorial Trust (Ustad Rashid Khan Sahib's Music Education Institution), Surer Dhara School and College, University of Dhaka. As a popular music teacher he remains very busy with online and offline music education sessions at home and abroad. 

Dr Tapas Datta started his journey of music at an early age in the family musical atmosphere in Chattogram. He was inspired by father Ranodhir Datta and mother Bani Datta’s wholehearted wishes as well as elder sister Papiya Datts's vocal music practice and elder brother Bikash Datta's tabla pursuits. From the beginning of his music education in the childhood, he has studied under - Shri Utpal Sen, Shri Arun Chakraborty, Shri Shyamal Basu, Principal of Anwara Shailabasini Didimani Sangeet Academy, Setaria Shri Satyajit Chakraborty, Shri Swarnamoy Chakraborty, Shri Tushar Datta, Dhrupadiya Shri Gaurasaran Dasgupta, Mrs Dalia Rahut and Pandit Arun Bhaduri.
