The Detectives Branch police arrested four members of the digital weight machine tampering ring from Kaptan Bazar in the capital Saturday.
The arrested persons are -- Sirajul Islam alias Sajib, Md Monir, Md Liton and Md Alauddin Khan.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Detective) Harun Or Rashid said the Motijheel Division of DB arrested them from the Kaptan Bazar area on Saturday night.
Police seized five digital wet machines, seven remote controls, and other accessories from their possession.
He said “Controlling weight remotely via remote control is a novel and new type of fraud. We used to hear that many people used to get average weight when they came to buy wholesale products. Many times, retail buyers have also complained like this. Motijheel Division of DB started working on the complaint.”
Later, a team of Detective Motijheel Division raided Hotel Desh Bangla in the Kaptan Bazar area of Wari police station and arrested Sirajul Islam alias Sajib.
Regarding the information obtained during the initial interrogation, he said that the arrested Sajib is a TV mechanic. He procures one-of-a-kind circuits and remotes from the online marketplace Daraz. This is how the digital weight machine can be controlled. The weight of the product can be reduced as desired through remote control.
The arrested Md Liton and Md Alauddin Khan came to take delivery of the previously ordered remote-controlled digital weight machine from Sajib. Based on the information provided by them another fraudster Monir was arrested.
