Tamim returns to training, Barishal yet to announce captain

Tamim Iqbal injured his left index finger on Tuesday during Fortune Barishal’s training from a delivery of pacer Taskin Ahmed. This left-handed opener left Mirpur with tape on his finger.

Tamim came to practice on Wednesday with that taped finger. Initially, he batted in the practice nets, then spent a long time on the indoor bowling machine.

Mizanur Rahman, a member of Barisal's coaching staff, said, "Yesterday, a ball jumped. It had no effect. Finger is fine. Yesterday he stopped practicing to prevent any more damage. Today he batted in full session.”

Tamim's team Barisal has not officially announced the captain's name even though there are only nine days left for Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Apart from Tamim, there are veterans like Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim in the team.

There is Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who is also in the leadership race.

"The captaincy has been decided. Unofficially may be said. I don't know if it has been announced yet. You will know when it's time. The management will tell who will be the captain.” Mizanur added.

Tamim practiced batting indoors for the last three days. The experienced opener, who has been out of the national team for a long time, had to leave the field after getting injured on the third day of practice.

He started batting practice this morning with fast bowler Taskin Ahmed bowling to him.

The left-handed batter injured his finger trying to fend off a delivery of this right-handed pacer who himself is making a comeback from injury.

The southpaw did not bat after getting injured and left the field with tape on the injured finger. Later, his team's physio Bayejidul Islam said Tamim's injury was not serious.

Tamim, who came back after two days of retirement, played the last match for Bangladesh in September last year.

He played one ODI at home against New Zealand, before being rested due to injury.

Tamim missed several series due to injury and did not play in the World Cup due to fitness issues despite recovering from the injury.

The team was controversially announced without him at the last moment and later it was revealed by him that he withdrew himself from the World Cup squad due to internal 'politics'.

Bangladesh played two Tests against New Zealand at home immediately after the World Cup Tamim did not play in this series but Tamim has been working on fitness with BPL as his target.

He will play for Fortune Barisal in this year's BPL.
