With the BCB President's Cup, the cricketers are set to return to competitive cricket. Bangladesh national team ODI captain Tamim Iqbal hopes the three-team tournament will be as competitive as the highest level of cricket. He also sees this tournament as an opportunity for young cricketers to knock on the doors of national team.
The BCB President's Cup trophy was unveiled on Saturday in the presence of three captains of the tournament - Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah Riyad and Nazmul Hossain Shanto. After this event, they faced the media.
“I don't think anyone will think of it as just a warm-up match or a general tournament," said Tamim.
I think this is an opportunity for everyone to play well and cement their place in the national team. I think the players will portray the type of seriousness and competitiveness they do when playing for Bangladesh.” The country's ace opener thinks it's important for everyone to perform, “We will be returning to competitive cricket after a long time. Aside from just thinking that we are returning to cricket, I think we can get a lot out of this tournament individually. If anyone plays well, bats or bowls exceptionally then he might see the doors of the national team opened for him or he may be considered for the national side.” Visitors are not allowed on the field. However, all the matches of the tournament will broadcast live on social media platforms.
In this context, Tamim said, “We will definitely miss the spectators. Because, we don’t usually play such tournaments. This kind of one-day tournament, divided into three teams, is very rare. But from what I hear, the game will be shown on Facebook or YouTube. Therefore, I think the spectres will be able to enjoy the matches from home.”
