‘Take stern measures against helmetless bikers’

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gopalganj Kazi Mahbubul Alam on Sunday instructed authorities concerned to take stern measures against the motorcyclists who don’t use helmets. 

The recent increase of death rate from road accidents in Gopalganj has become a matter of concern. Among the people who die due to road accidents, the number of motorcyclists is the highest. According to the information provided by the investigation of police, fire service and experts, inept driving, driving uncontrollably at high speed and motorcyclists not using standard helmet are the reasons for the rise of death toll due to road accidents.

At the monthly meeting of Law and Order Committee, Kazi Mahbubul Alam instructed the authorities concerned to take stern measures against the motorcyclists who don’t use helmet. It was decided that the motorcyclist without helmet will be charged with hefty fine and standard helmet will be distributed with the money raised from the fine to the helmetless motorcyclists. Moreover, it will not be allowed to park vehicles here and there on the road except the bus terminal. To reduce severe traffic jam in the town, it was decided that the goods laden trucks have to be unloaded before 8:00am. Besides that, it was also decided to strengthen the supervision in various check posts in the town to stop the crimes, including theft and robbery.

General secretary of Gopalganj district bus and minibus owners’ association Jamil Sarwar and Gopalganj Islamic Foundation deputy director Abu Obaida Mohammad Mas-u-dul Haque demanded to restart the closed bus service in Gopalganj-Tungipara route at the meeting.

The monthly meeting of Law and Order Committee was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj on Sunday. Additional District Magistrate Mst Nazmun Naher moderated the meeting.  

Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Al-Beli Afifa (PPM), district Awami League president Mahbub Ali Khan, general secretary GM Sahab Uddin Azam, advisor of district Awami League Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Commander of RAB-6 Syed Fazlur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md Khairul Alam, Kashiani Upazila Chairman heroic freedom fighter Md Moktar Hossain, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohsin Uddin, Kotalipara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahinur Akter, Kashiani Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rashedujjaman, Tungipara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mainul Haque, Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Azizur Rahman and others were present at the meeting.
