Tahsan gets anticipatory bail in Evaly fraud case

Singer-actor Tahsan Khan was associated with the much-discussed e-commerce organisation as a goodwill ambassador. On Thursday Jan 20 the actor has been granted anticipatory bail in the High Court on charges of aiding and abetting Evaly’s fraudulent activities and embezzlement.

A High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order on Thursday. Advocate Sanjida Khanam appeared for Tahsan Khan in the court. Deputy Attorney General Mohiuddin Dewan represented the state.

Earlier, on January 19, Tahsan Khan had appealed for anticipatory bail in the High Court in the case. He filed the petition in a criminal bench of the High Court. On December 13, the High Court granted six weeks of bail to actress Rafiath Rashid Mithila was associated with ‘Evaly’s ‘Face of Evaly Lifestyle’ goodwill ambassador and Actress Sabnam Faria also joined as the Chief Public Relations Officer in the case. 

On December 4 last year, Saad Sam Rahman, a customer of Evaly, filed a case with the Dhanmondi Police Station against nine people, including Tahsan Khan, Rafiath Rashid Mithila and Sabnam Faria.

According to the statement of the case, the money of the customers has been embezzled and assisted fraudulently. The amount of money embezzled was Tk 3 lakh 18 thousand which could not be recovered.

At that time, Dhanmondi police OC Md. Ekram Ali Mia said a customer of Evaly named Saad Sam Rahman filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on December 11. Evaly’s MD Mohammad Russell, chairman Shamima Nasrin, popular star Tahsan Khan, Rafiath Rashid Mithila and Sabnam Faria were among the nine accused in the case.

Evaly MD Mohammad Russell and Chairman Shamima Nasrin have been arrested in the case. The rest are under investigation.

Asked what the plaintiff had alleged in the case, the OC said the accused in the case had embezzled Tk 3.18 lakh from him. The victim has not been able to recover the money yet. As a result, the victim Saad Sam was forced to file the case at the police station.
